Cataract Eye (Motibindu) Surgery Cost in Mumbai

Cataract (Motiyabind) Surgery Cost in Mumbai: What Decides the Price

cataract surgery cost in mumbai

The cost of cataract surgery is one of the first questions patients and families ask. The cost depends on several things: the lens (IOL) implanted in your eye, which is the biggest single factor, the surgeon’s expertise, and the quality of the consumables used during surgery. This guide explains what you pay for, what changes the price, and our package prices at Deevine Eye Care, Ghatkopar.

What is included in the cost of cataract surgery?

At Deevine Eye Care, our cataract packages are per eye and include:

  • Surgeon’s fees
  • The intraocular lens (IOL)
  • OT charges
  • Follow-up visits after surgery

Pre-operative tests (such as eye measurements for lens power) are charged separately.

What changes the price?

1. The surgeon’s expertise. Cataract surgery is delicate micro-surgery. An experienced, well-trained surgeon plans your lens power precisely, handles complex cataracts safely and gives you the best chance of sharp, comfortable vision.

2. The consumables used in surgery. Good-quality viscoelastics, single-use surgical instruments and fluids, and other OT consumables are part of what keeps surgery safe and the eye comfortable afterwards.

3. The type of lens (IOL). This is the single biggest factor in the price. A standard monofocal lens gives clear distance vision, and you use reading glasses. Advanced lenses reduce your need for glasses, cost more, and are worth it only if they suit your eyes and lifestyle.

4. Astigmatism (cylindrical number). If you have significant cylinder in your glasses, a toric lens can correct it during cataract surgery.

5. How much you want to be free of glasses. Multifocal and trifocal lenses give distance, intermediate and near vision, and are priced at the top of the range.

6. Your eye’s condition. A very advanced cataract, or other eye conditions, can make surgery more complex.

Choosing the lens that is right for you

The intraocular lens remains in the eye for life, so the choice deserves careful thought. In my practice, I do not recommend a lens on price alone. I recommend it after measuring the eye, examining the cornea and retina, and understanding how the patient uses their vision every day.

  • A monofocal lens gives clear distance vision; reading glasses are needed for near work.
  • A monofocal plus or EDOF lens extends the range into intermediate vision, useful for the computer and household tasks.
  • A toric lens corrects astigmatism at the same time as the cataract.
  • A multifocal or trifocal lens provides distance, intermediate and near vision, and is suitable only for selected eyes. Some patients notice haloes or glare around lights at night, particularly in the first few months.

Each option has its own benefits and limitations. At consultation, I explain these clearly so that the patient and family can decide with complete information. Whichever lens is chosen, the standard of surgical care remains the same.

Is a more expensive lens always better?

No. The best lens is the one that matches your eye measurements, your overall health and how you live. Conditions such as diabetes, glaucoma or retinal disease can affect which lenses are suitable; for example, multifocal lenses are often not advised when diabetes has affected the retina. A retired reader who is happy with glasses may do very well with a monofocal lens, while someone who drives at night and works on a computer may benefit from an EDOF or toric lens. Dr. Devanshi Shah explains each option at your consultation, so you choose with full information rather than on price alone.

Is laser or “robotic” cataract surgery worth the extra cost?

Some centres offer femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery at an additional charge. The laser performs some steps of the operation, such as the opening of the lens capsule, but the cataract is still removed by phacoemulsification. Large clinical trials have found that the visual results of laser-assisted surgery are similar to those of standard phacoemulsification performed by an experienced surgeon. For most patients, the choice of lens and the precision of the eye measurements matter more to the final vision than the use of a laser.

Frequently asked questions about cataract surgery cost

Is the price per eye or for both eyes? Our package prices are per eye. If both eyes need surgery, each eye is charged separately, and the lens for each eye is chosen after its own measurements.

Why do cataract surgery prices vary so much between hospitals? The price depends on the lens, the surgical technique, the consumables used, the surgeon’s experience and what the package includes. When comparing, check that you are comparing the same lens and the same inclusions.

Does diabetes change the cost? The package price is the same. However, patients with diabetes may need additional tests, such as a retinal scan (OCT), and closer follow-up, and diabetes can affect which lens is suitable.

Are pre-operative tests included? No. Pre-operative tests, such as lens measurements and any scans needed, are charged separately.

Is EMI available? Yes, EMI options are available. Our team will explain them at your consultation.
